Thai gold is strictly regulated by the government and is bought and sold around the country at many independent and larger chains of gold shops that you can find almost as easily as a 7-Eleven.  Thai gold is all solid 0.965 (96.5%) fine gold, which is equivalent to more than 23 karat gold (23 karat gold would only be 95.8% fine, and this is 96.5% fine).  The remaining 3.5% is a mixture of silver and copper to give the jewelry some resilience.

This is a ring that could be worn by either a woman or a man.  It was bought directly from a gold shop called "Aurora" at a mall in Si Racha, Thailand.  This item has not been worn.  It has a ring size of "9" as shown on the ring sizer. 

This ring weighs 3.80 grams, known as an "quarter baht".  A "baht" in gold is a unit of measure (different from the current currency unit in Thailand that is also called a "Baht").  A gold "baht" is 15.2 grams of 0.965 gold.  Jewelry is often slightly off from this, like this piece which weighs a 3.78 grams as a "quarter baht" (also known as a "salung"). The ring is finely detailed in a thick woven pattern.

The "Actual Gold Weight" (AGW) of this piece is 0.117 Troy Ounce of fine gold.  We arrive at this by taking the gross weight of the piece, 3.78, and multiplying that by 0.965, and then dividing that amount by the number of grams of fine 0.999 gold in a troy ounce of 0.999 fine gold, which is 31.104, and, that comes out to 0.1172.  So the "AGW" of this piece is 0.117, which is slightly over 1/10 of an ounce of pure gold, so, it is more gold than a 1/10 ounce gold panda or maple leaf coin, and even outweighs a gold ducat coin of 0.11 AGW.
